Professional training that works. All training is performed in a positive weighted manner with minimum possible correctional training. This means more well done's and less no's throughout training and obviously zero physical punishment! Our devotion, you're understanding and following simple rules will result in perfection. If you watch tv programs and films and feal amazed from dog performances in them do not look down at youre pooch thinking he/she isn't capable and that those tv stars are special. There only difference is training.

 

Who needs their dog to be trained?

Really all dogs that live with us need to be trained. Just like human beings dogs to need to be taught the rights and wrongs of life. In the wild dogs learn from their mum and siblings as they grow up they learn from experience and from the rest of the pack. Thus dogs are very good observers. Their strongest weapon being their natural instincts. All of their learnings in the wild is carried out in steps. They have a special mechanism significantly for learning which triggers in at different age levels! A dog lving with us humans is not expected to act like a dog but to act like a humanized dog! We have house rules such as when and were to eat, eating furnitures forbidden chewing the door to bits is unacceptable, hiding food under the sofa is not accepted, barking at mid-night isn't accepted etc. For youre four legged fur ball to understand and also appriciate these rules and actually follow them proper training is required. Being that dogs do not think like humans or communicate as humans do training must be carried out in a way that they understand and appriciate. To get communication going between owner and pooch training is also required.

No training is sandwiched or rushed. For best results which is an obedient and willing trained dog with a drive, all training is spread out and performed in steps. A 5 day HB program at 2-3 months of age gets puppy accustomed to living with humans. Learning toilet manners, sit, shake hands and sit for food gives puppy a kick start. By following some simple rules you and puppy make a bond and slowly develop these commands. When puppy reaches 4-6 months of age puppy is ready to climb the second flight of steps. The FGO (Foundational General Obedience) program is the intermediate stage of Obedience, a special routine of commands or everyday use. On completing this stage puppy will have learnt to walk with you rather then take you for a walk, sit, stand, lay, fetch etc. and stay. Following simple rules puppy is daily exercised with you until 8-12 months old. At this age puppy enters real Obedience classes and learns commands and perfection. On completion of stage one of obedience puppy is now ready to continue with specialty training.

A very important factor of our training system is that you or your pal isn't forced into un-required training. All training programs are split into parts and priced accordingly. This way you get to choose the training that you require.

A pet dog will have a happy life with only taking the FGO class. Perfection isn't expected but a controllable pet he/she will be. Most pet owners prefer to complete the OB1 class. There are no musts for continuing with further programs after completion. It all depends with what you want from your pal.

All training is carried out in a %80 positive and a %20 corrective manner. This makes training fun for you're four legged friend and not agony. All dogs we train always come back with wiggling tails and bright eyes eager for more training.

Who to choose to train you're pooch.

As in every line of work there are the pros and the cons. As a principle we do not share information about other trainers or breeders that we know of and disagree with their training or breeding procedure. Talking bad about people in the same line of work is very common and the goal idea is to retain customers or persuade a customer to buy ones products or services thus the 'gossip' is generally a bag of lies. What we will advice is: If you have given you're dog to be trained perform a few tests.

1- Hand Test: Lift you're hand as if to hit you're dog on the head. What was the outcome?

Absolutely nothing is obviously desired.

Dog bends head and is frightened. He/she has most probably been beaten. Loosing self-confidence is one of the greatest problems.

Dog goes aggressive. Bad training dog is frightened. Knows that it means bad news. Dog is either self-confident but freighted being dangerous or dog is really scared and has lost self-confidence and is or is becoming a scare - biter. Very dangerous.

2- Does you're dog go stressful when it's time for training? A professional and good trainer's best advertisement campaign is that student dogs do not only perform but they do it happily and willingly. Training dogs must adore their trainer. If you're dog changes mood to worst not better on the approach of his/her trainer then just use you're common sense and work out why!

3- If you're dog went in for protection training, don't closed eyed, believe any trainer that the course completed successfully. Ask for a demonstration if not provided. Is you're dog performing in the correct manner? Barking or growling at the right moment. Biting only when necessary. Biting in the correct manner. Releasing on command or when 'attacker' gives in. Returning and acting obediently in a happy manner. If you're dog goes vicious and stays vicious, is uncontrollable etc. then you are in trouble. You could have trained you're dog in such a manner and for free to! Tie pooch up, beat the heck out of it. Put pooch in a dark confined room for a few weeks whilst tied and not fed properly... Then put it in the garden and wait for it to kill the postman, hospitalize you or you're loved ones...

Many trainers perform a simple training trick. For obedience they will teach a dog to sit, walk near to you (not heel), lay and stand. They will quickly train and you will have an 'obedient' dog. If you call that training, many throw in the attack command to, and it only costs you £500! But don't expect you're dog to release on command, correctly protect you or even think of leaving you're dog unattended with kids! Talk to the trainer before all starts and find out what you are really enrolling you're dog in for. If there is an attack command is their a release and return command? Use you're common sense and decide for-yourself what an obedient dog means to you. As for a clue: For us an obedient dog firstly depends on age. An obedient puppy is one that is constantly happy and is actually in search for mischief but will stop it's mischief on command and will allow you to divert its attention elsewhere. A puppy under four months of age will sit for food, eat on command, get into bed or crate on command, sit on command and shake hands on command. He/she is always happy and willing, knowing what pleases you is constantly doing more and more to satisfy you. A puppy older then four months of age if obedient will as an extra walk beside you and not pull, stop and wait on command, sit and wait on command, lay on command, release ball or any other object on command, turn on command, come on command, etc. An obedient adult will as an extra perform all commands in a quicker and more professional manner, will enter and exit a room on command, will lay and wait on command etc.

There are three training approaches. 1- Unprofessional. Very limited commands, not to eager dog, in many cases stressful even freighted. 2- Competition training. This is training were a trainer teaches a dog all required to achieve a certificate and no more. It is not a training method we condemn, many trainers use this method and leave extra training for the dogs owners to continue or have separate follow-up training programs. But some are only looking or money and a certificate is their 'proof' that they did their part and deserve their fees charged. 3- Training is performed in sets according to the dog's age. Seeking perfection but making sure that they do not go over the top teaching as much as the dog will allow. This is the approach we prefer. Many commands and actions are thrown in. If a certificate requires a dog to jump over a four foot wall with a 1kg. Dumbbell in its mouth then we will be asking the dog to jump over a higher wall with extra weight. If the certificate requires a sit then we want a sit and wait. Training is performed so that the training is actually useful for everybody included.

A last word on choosing the right coach: If you yourself have enough free time to spare, are patient loving and kind, and are ready to research and learn then you could be the ideal coach for your dog. We always welcome this approach and are always happy to help. All you have to do is come down to the training centre and ask for help. We will be more then pleased to listen to you're problems and share our experience. This is for free by the way and don't be surprised when you get a free cuppa tea either! As a start of advice if you wish to train your own dog get a couple of proper training books, search the web for more then one approach and after understanding in theory how to train and after learning the basics of dog psychology only then start of training. Never rush always take training in steps and in short periods. Do not wait for miracles give your dog time. E.g. Up to a week for a sit. Always use a method that you completely understand and sounds the best to you're ear. If you are really patient and you want a dog that turns heads then here's the best piece of training experience you will ever get: Train your dog %100 positively. Best results always come from positive training. Lastly DO NOT perform training such as protection training without a professional! You can always higher a professional decoy. He/she will help you but will work under you doing what you want. He/she will be playing the role as an attacker teaching you're dog the correct way to bite etc. Any unprofessional can easily harm you're dog especially mentally which is hard if not impossible in many cases to repair. This type of professional help is very cheap. Oh and by the way always socialize your dog properly whether a hunting dog, a house pet, or a protection dog.

POSITIVE TRAINING:

To start of with the best training outcome is through positive training. It is the most expensive and slowest training method available and is very hard! We train in a %80 positive and %20 corrective manner. The reason for this is that customers always want quick results and this is the quickest we will give them. Secondly and more importantly is that if a dog is trained in a %100 positive manner it must be treated exactly the same at home. Only a handful of people will ever be able to manage.

How it works:

If you want to teach your dog to sit. Then wait for your dog to sit, when he/she does reward and say the word sit a few times. Do not say anything else. Keep this up. After a period of time your dog will sit on command without hesitation and will be performing its sit very happily. Then to get your dog to sit in the right position first use your body. Position yourself in the right position after sit is performed and then reward. Gradually you will have to position yourself less or even a slight movement will be enough for the correct sit. In time sits will be %100. As explained you will have noticed that you're dog doesn't receive any help such as pushing but down or lifting head. The word NO was not used either. This is all that positive training is all about the less corrections a dog receives the more enthusiastic he/she will be. Training takes a considerable amount of time and there must be zero stress. All training is performed using a dog's natural instinct. Dogs are very clever they will learn a specific sound, action, atmosphere, smell etc. is in relation with something else. Dogs all ways use relationship thinking in performing. If we were to train a dog %100 positively then send him/her home into an environment where his/her human family do not have the knowledge or patience of positive training they will be putting a lot of stress onto their dog. the dog in return will be sadder and not happier living their, everything will be downfall from their and the dog will quickly loose its drive and self-confidence or will be looking for his/her trainer and wish he/she wasn't back a home. If you are self-confident and have solid nerves and go for the positive method you will see that training will take a longer time but the outcome will be much better then any other approach. You're dog will be very loyal to you and always happy.

 

Some Words On Schutzhund What always upsets me the most with dogs is speculations due to unprofessional training and breeding, gossip and miss-knowledge. Schutzhund training is frequently condemned by a small group of people. These people tend to see themselves as 'animal lovers'. Schutzhund training is a certificate program that consists of 3 stages: Obedience, Tracking, and Protection. People tend to think that the protection phase consists of attacking and biting. Appropriate breeds for Schutzhund are dogs that will bite to protect people they love regardless of training, it is in their blood! Schutzhund trained dogs are first taught not to bite. They are taught the correct way to bite and they are taught to release on command. They are taught when to bite! It is not a program that teaches a dog to be aggressive. Also a word of note an aggressive dog cannot pass the Schutzhund trial!	Some words on K-9 Many people have the idea that K-9 is another name for German Shepherd Dogs. In reality K-9 is a training program that different breeds can participate. Successful candidates earn the title K-9. The main reason for people believing that K-9 is a breed name is mostly due to the fact that K-9 title owner dogs are generally German Shepherd Dogs who are un-doubtfully the best breed for K-9 training. K-9 training is a complicated and hard training program that only a handful of breeds can attend and only those who entirely qualify to their breed standards have the chance of successfully completing the program.
Breeding and Cyprus. Mongol dogs I can't stress out how important this topic is. There is no breeding control mechanism in North Cyprus . Therefore breeding is carried out in a very unprofessional manner. Breeding is not as simple as one thinks. All dog breeds have breed standards. Breeding must be performed with the breed's standard as the main goal. This requires genetic knowledge. Unprofessional breeding will result as puppy's not up to their breed standard. This means that the puppy does not own their breeds traits, shape and or size. Resulting to further strays, unhappy dogs and owners. The most common outcome is aggressive dogs! The second autonomy's which declines life expectancy and the overall quality of life. Third bitten owners! Mongols are the biggest problem in North Cyprus . Mixing two breeds will result as a mogul. The first problem a mogul will have is its anatomy. An incorrect anatomy can result with many unpleasant situations. Limbs are not proportional causing pain and low fitness. One can never know what to expect from the future of a mogul. I have however seen very lucky mogul owners who have special dogs. Please click here for further information.	Male vs. Female and Breed Selection There are two questions that are frequently asked. People ask which the best breed is and whether a male or female is better... As an answer to the best breed. There is no best breed. People have their preferences and preferences change from person to person. What is important is your and you're families character, were you are housed, how much room you can spare for you're companion and what you expect from you're dog. Every breed has their special differences. Some are better with people, some love kids, some are easy learners and their exact opposites as well as different traits. Breeds differ in how they cope with stress, how they can smell hear or see, herding traits, protective traits etc. Some dogs can easily adapt to apartment homes others will have trouble with even the largest garden. Different breeds require different amounts of exercise. There fore the best breed is the one that suits you best. As an example you wouldn't choose a Siberian Husky if you have a baby and live in an apartment. You could however choose a German Shepherd dog. Write down your future expectations in one list, you and you're family's character in a second list and living conditions and environment in another. Then research each breed and check their standards to your list. You will end up with a handful of options to choose from. Only then decide on looks, color and size. As for male vs. female. Both have their advantages and disadvantages in short; a male is larger and stronger. a male (alike us humans) matures later in life. A stud (male) will tend to decide not to listen when a bitch (female) is around especially if in season. A female matures earlier in life and settles down before fully grown resulting in less devastating accidents. A bitch is much closer to the family and has a higher protection instinct. A female is swifter but will be slightly slower and not as powerful. Smaller in size and will tend to search for males when in season. However this occurs twice a year and lasts for 5-15 days. Therefore again choice is left to you and you're own preference.
Where to find the right dog A simple rule. Do not get yourself a dog from an unprofessional breeder. You will not be certain if it is a pure breed. You will not know what the future holds. Make sure that mum and dad are certificated with a pedigree and have paperwork stating that they are approved for breeding. Ask to see mum and dad if possible. Research their pedigrees. Look for certificates and degrees in the family history. Never receive a puppy from a breeder who doesn't show interest in where you live or who you are. The more a breeder cares about where the puppy's are going there's a higher chance that the breeder cares and takes breeding seriously. A true breeder will ask you to sign a contract specifying his/her rules as well as a health guaranty!	The pet, show-line, and working-line dogs A dog classified as a pet will be most suitable for most homes. He/she will be near neutral in all aspects of his/her breed. A work dog is a dog that to the un-trained eye is hyper active and is a handful. Work dogs fit to their breed standards and are suitable for trained people. These dogs require an appropriate job to be happy. Show dogs are those dogs that fit to their breed standards in all fields including visually such as coat length and color. In many cases a show dog is also classified in the working line. Show dogs are hard to come buy for acquiring. Breeders generally keep them to themselves, sell at high prices on contract that the dog will be trained and enter competitions and in many cases will require joint owner-ship.
Rabies in Cyprus For some reason the rabies vaccine is not a must in Northern Cyprus and no one imports it anymore due to literally zero demand. Reason being is that it has been eliminated. The question is forever? It's seen in Turkey from time to time as in many other countries. Everybody knows that in the past few years many dogs are imported into Cyprus . I have never seen the quarantine with enough dogs in it to qualify. In reality many pups never see the quarantine they and many other pets enter the country illegally! It's just a matter of time that a carrier enters the country. Protect you're dogs get them vaccinated. Another vaccine that we believe to be a must is the tetanus vaccine. Outcome is very much alike rabies. Even though there is a cure for rabies if taken at the right time animals are not treated they are put down! You can imagine what happens to animals in x-mile diameter too... The most expensive vaccine I have ever heard of for rabies was £10 a year. So let's say you get 'conned' for £10. Do you really think that it's a lot of money considering it may save you're dogs life someday. Two of my dog's yearly rabies vaccine came up this April. Two kind vet's got me the vaccine for my dogs from South Cyprus it only cost me £8.50 for both of them. Expensive? Not worth it?	Vet's in Cyprus - List of Vet's and Their Comments This is a very upsetting topic. Got a problem with you're dog you're not going to receive the best of attention from most vets. CLICK here for a vet list and what they have to say for themeselves. Most vets can't be bothered with following advancing technology and medicine, unfortunately their university diploma only shows that they studied and learnt medicine and treatment successfully. Neither the university or government can back up a vet by saying they care or are hygienic nor is there a control mechanism. Ever seen a billed by a vet with a real invoice? I have seen vets operate on one animal and then do an ear operation on a second dog without washing their hands. Hygiene is not much of a matter to many. I had a set of German Shepherd Dog Puppy's. Severn pups in total. When their tattoo numbers came from the FCI I went to a so-called best vet of Cyprus who apparently was the only person who could tattoo. So with no other choice at hand, I had the first four numbers with me and accidentally took 1 wrong puppy. So I left three of them and went back home to swap when I returned I found the vet tattooing the third puppy in a completely un-hygienic manner. To my horror he had even given them worming tablets without consulting me when hey had already received anti-worming treatment earlier that day. 7 day's later all four tattooed puppies began showing symptoms of the Parvo virus. I rushed of to the vet who stated they couldn't have caught the virus from him, and that symptoms show up 15 to 21 days after infection (lie). He said that he had a special medicine for the Parvo virus and would cost me £40 per puppy per treatment that would continue for three days. When I told him that I wasn't interested he turned around and warned me not to feed the puppy's or give them water for three days or I would kill them the same day!!! A year has past and I still have not heard of such a treatment anywhere world wide. There is no treatment for Parvo. All a vet can do is give antibiotics, steroids etc. Oh and by the way. The Parvo virus causes dehydration and that is what causes death! A puppy with Parvo has only a chance if dehydration is prevented and the week puppy is protected from further illnesses that the immune system is to week to fight with! As you can understand the vet wanted the puppy's to die because I didn't accept his offer. Please be careful choosing you're vet. Stay away from big-mouthed know it alls. Look for hygiene and devotion. A good vet is ready to answer you're call 24 hours a day even though limited there are a handful out there. Follow your gut feeling when choosing a vet. Don't ask us about you're vet, all we can say is we don't know them or if coincidently one of our trusted vets we will say we are happy with them else we will end up in court non-stop for damaging ones business.
Turkish Dogs. A very upsetting topic for me. It has taken foriegners to start up an argument about Turkish dogs for s few people in turkey to actually study the matter. The FCI as an example has given the name Anatolian Shepherd to all dogs from Turkey! The Anatolian (Karabash) Dog Club is the only club I know of to be putting up a fight that there are different breeds. In Turkey I have actually even witnessed on the news the misleading knowledge of many people in Turkey. In Turkey people have many disputes. The trueth is as follows. There is a breed that is mostly from Kangal/Sivas. This breed is the Kangal breed. It's old name is Karabaş. So the Karabash and the Kangal are the same dog. There is the Yoruk Shepherd Dog. This breed has a more pointed face and loger muzzle then the Kangal and comes in a variety of colours. It also has ones that look very like the Kangal. These are most probably a crossed breed, however research has shown that there is only a color and shape similarity. There is the Akbash which is white but not really a third breed but a Yoruk Dog. Lastly is the Caucasian Shepherd Dogs. I have seen photo's of them in UK sites calling them Kangs! A different breed at first look. In short: Kangal: Squrer face, more dominant, existance in Turkey has been traced back some 8,000 years. Found in Central Anatolia. Distinguished looks and charecter. Black on ear ends, black muzzle, coat:fawn, steel grey, white. Thicker bones. Yoruk: Found all over Turkey and have been traced back for some 3,000 years. They have many colors including white known as the Akbash. Smaller boned then the karabash, smaller narrower more pointed faces. Caucasian: Probably also mixed bred in time. Found in the North-East of Turkey. Longer coats, a hevier dog. So if you are seeking to adopt a famous Kangal make sure you find a breeder who knows about Turkish dogs or you will find you have either a mixed breed or another dog.
